5K BENEFITTING CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION 04-20-23

This month, the Westfield Rocks Referrals Group is organizing their own 5k team benefitting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. One of our group member’s daughters has cystic fibrosis so we have chosen to walk and raise awareness in her honor. Cystic Fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. There are close to 40,000 children and adults living with cystic fibrosis in the United States (and an estimated 105,000 people have been diagnosed with CF across 94 countries), and CF can affect people of every racial and ethnic group. Today, because of improved medical treatments and care, more than half of people with CF are age 18 or older. Many people with CF can expect to live healthy, fulfilling lives into their 30s, 40s, and beyond. This month, the group will be participating in the Golf FORE Heart & Soul Clinic charity golf outing on June 9th at Woodwind Golf Club in Westfield! All proceeds go towards operations and care of patients at the clinic. Heart and Soul Free Clinic is a free health clinic for individuals without health insurance or who are underinsured in Hamilton county and the surrounding areas.
The Westfield Rocks Referrals Group celebrates their 1st anniversary!!! Since forming in June of 2022, the group has grown to 21 members, passed over $675,000 in referrals to one another, and donated over $11,000 to local charities! The group has partnered with the following charitable organizations over the last year: Versiti Blood Centers, Firefly Children and Family Alliance, Foster Fairies Inc., Open Doors, Indy Hygiene Hub, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and Kelli’s Kegs & Eggs. Westfield Rocks Referrals Group is a networking group unlike the others. We have a strong focus on community involvement and are constantly looking for ways to give back to our local community here in Westfield and surrounding areas. We are an exclusive networking group with only one seat per profession. We pass referrals directly to each other on a weekly basis to help grow our respective businesses. We believe in the law of reciprocity. The more referrals we give to each other, the more referrals will naturally come back to us. But why stop there? We have so much more to give! We believe in Westfield. We want to see our community thrive! And we want to do whatever we can to help pass along our good fortunes to those that may be less fortunate than us. That’s why we pick a different charity each month to partner along with. And that’s why our group was formed around the foundation of giving back. Each year, we will collectively decide which local charities will be the recipients of our good fortunes. Our membership dues are held in an account, and after all necessary operating expenses, the funds leftover from those dues will go directly to charities in our community.
In May, The Westfield Rocks Referrals Group teamed up with Kelli’s Kegs N Eggs 5k for brain cancer research. Westfield Rocks Referrals Group donated $1000 to the organization and multiple team members volunteered on race day. Kelli McLaughlin, was a 45 year old Carmel resident, local small business owner, wife and mom of 4, and active member of the community, when she was unexpectedly diagnosed with a brain tumor, Glioblastoma, in October 2021. Glioblastoma is an aggressive brain cancer for which there is no cure and the prognosis of this disease is poor. The lack of awareness and funding prevents improvements in standards of care and treatment for those fighting GBM. Kelli’s response to this need was to raise both awareness and funding by creating Kelli’s Kegs N Eggs 5k. Unfortunately, Kelli lost her battle with Glioblastoma on April 21st of this year. All profits from Kelli’s Kegs N Eggs will be divided equally between the American Brain Tumor Association to aid in research and a scholarship fund to aid local Indianapolis families who are newly diagnosed with Glioblastoma and are in need of immediate resources.
Westfield Rocks Referral Group sponsored a table at the Bubble Bash to benefit the Indy Hygiene Hub, whose mission is to support families in need by supplying high-quality personal care and hygiene items.
